“The Iceman” Mika Immonen Freezes the Competition at Mezz Tour Stop #2 at Atlantic City Billiards

Last Sunday, February 21st, the newly-launched Mezz Tour headed to Atlantic City Billiards for its second stop of the season.  Although a very tough field of 50 players were in attendance for this event, none were able to match the firepower of reigning World 10-ball Champion and Mezz player representative Mika Immonen.

However, some strong performances were seen from a number of players, including Victor Nau, who finished 3rd in both this event and the first event at Drexeline BilliardsEddie Abraham also made his presence known, going undefeated through the winner’s bracket to defeat Nau for the hot seat, winning a hill-hill match against Immonen along the way.  WPBA Pro Liz Ford also had an impressive showing at this event, finishing tied for 5th place with Joey Testa.

Stop #3 of the Mezz Tour will be held on March 7th at Main Line Billiards Club in Frazer, PA.

The Mezz Pro-Am Tour made its way to Atlantic City Billiard Club in Egg Harbor, NJ on Sunday February 21, 2010.  A strong field of 50 players came out to compete, including Mika Immonen, Joey Testa, Eddie Abraham, Phil Wines, Victor Nau, Rob Pole, Joe Frady, Liz Ford, Caroline Pao, and Denise Reeve.

Leading the top half of the bracket was Eddie Abraham with wins over Mike Conway (7-3), Rob Palm (7-2), Mika Immonen (7-6), Phil Wines (7-5), and Joey Testa (7-5).  Leading the bottom half of the bracket was Victor Nau with wins over Jerry Russo (7-3), Tom Bow (7-6), Shaun Wilkie (7-4), Caroline Pao (7-3), and Liz Ford (7-6).

Playing for the hot seat were Victor Nau and Eddie Abraham.  This was a one-sided match with Eddie Abraham taking control of the match from the start winning easily (7-3), and sending Victor Nau to the one-loss side. Waiting for Victor Nau on the one-loss side was Mika Immonen. This match also was one way with Mika Immonen winning (7-3) to get to the finals

The finals featured Mika Immonen vs the undefeated Eddie Abraham, and Immonen would have to beat Eddie Abraham twice to win the event.  The first set was great set with Eddie Abraham leading 4-1 only to see Mika Immonen come back to win 7-5.  In the second set the lead went back and forth with Mika Immonen pulling away late the win the match 7-4 and the event.

Mezz Tour Director Jose Burgos would like to thank the players for coming out and showing their support, as well as Mezz Cues for their sponsorship.

Chavez and Testa Split Mezz Tour Honors

The Mezz Pro-Am Tour’s first stop went off with a bang, hosted by Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hill, PA, January 31. A strong field of 53 players came out, including Eddie Abraham, Shaun Wilkie, and Matt Krah, but Ignacio Chavez and Joey Testa took home top honors.

Chavez led the top half of the bracket with wins over Caroline Pao 7-2, Abraham 7-3, Josh Brothers 7-4, Wilkie 7-1, and Adam Kielar 7-4. Leading the bottom half of the bracket was Testa, with wins over Sharon O’Hanlon 7-1, John Graziano 7-0, Gregg McAndrews 7-2, and Victor Nau 7-3.

Testa and Chavez matched up in the hot seat match, with Testa pulling away late to win 7-4. Waiting for Chavez on the one-loss side was Nau, coming fresh from a win over Brothers. But Nau’s momentum wasn’t enough to carry him through to the finals, as it was all Chavez, who easily won 7-2.

In the true double-elimination finals, it was Testa versus Chavez. In order for Chavez to win the event, he would have to best Testa twice. However, both players decided to be co-champions and split first place.
