Personal Info
Mika Ilari Immonen was born on December 17, 1972 in Paddington, London, England, along with a fraternal twin named Kari Jalmari.
Mika was always so athletic he even loved running at an early age. One day he was on his way to play ice hockey with his pals. It was colder than usual that night, and they decided to seek refuge in this new Billiard Parlor down the street from his home. He started playing billiards nearly every night that winter. The owner of the room encouraged Mika to play in a pool tournament in a nearby city where the 1st place was a ham! He brought home the Bacon.
Mika started getting serious about pool in 1992. He has his first big title in Austria, where he won all his 7 matches. He even beat Ralph Souquet who was already a household name at that time. Mika was awarded the “Best Player of the Tournament”.
It was a “calculated risk” to choose to become a professional pool player. For many years, there was a lot of work and millions of miles of travel but not much to show for it. It was only around 1998 when Mika started coming into his own and finally broke through the next level: Winning tournaments all over the world.
Mika remembers his friends and family’s support at this time and is very thankful for those who know him well enough through the ups and downs. It’s not easy to understand how seriously he took the sport.
Now, 17 years after starting to play professional pool, Mika has finally reached many of his dreams including World Championships, US.Open Champion and Player of The Year 2008. |
